#QueerLabz — Meet queer adults without explaining the basics first

Conversation without the introductory lecture

Some conversations are about coming out, gender, dating, sex, sexting, or relationships; plenty are about work, games, bad television, or whatever happened that day. The shared context means you can get to know people without turning every remark into a primer for the room.

Flirting can stay playful in the room or move into lewd private chat when both people want it. Being queer, friendly, or sexually open is never blanket permission for an explicit DM.

Respectful allies may join. The room is not a debate stage for somebody else's identity, and slurs, targeted harassment, or persistent unwanted contact should be taken to #report.

Join under a nickname

The browser chat asks for a nickname, not a public profile. You can listen before joining the conversation and register the nickname later if you want to keep it. IRC still exposes some connection and profile information through normal network features, so read the Privacy Notice rather than assuming “anonymous” means invisible.

What people talk about

The channel has no compulsory agenda. Common threads include:

• Music and playlists
• Films and television shows
• Books and creative writing
• Gaming interests and new releases
• Travel stories and experiences
• Creative projects and personal achievements
• Everyday life and personal milestones

Everyday conversation belongs here just as much as discussion about identity.

What moderation can act on

Volunteer moderators review conduct in context. Include the nickname, room, approximate time, and what happened when reporting harassment, impersonation, threats, or repeated contact after a clear no. A moderator may ask follow-up questions before deciding what action fits.

The room is an IRC channel

The webchat handles the connection for newcomers. Existing IRC users can connect with their own client and join the same #QueerLabz channel. Either route leads to the same live conversation.

Know where you are

#QueerLabz is part of an adult network. It is not automatically an explicit room, but conversation can be adult and every participant must be 18 or older. Before joining:

• Use the room context — ask before moving a conversation into sexual territory
• Take a no once — do not pressure somebody who has declined contact
• Keep personal data personal — yours and other people's

Is #QueerLabz only for LGBTQ+ people?

No. #QueerLabz centres LGBTQ+ people and conversation, while respectful allies are welcome to join without turning identities into a debate.

Can people flirt or sext in #QueerLabz?

Yes. Flirting and sexting can grow out of the conversation, but ask before making it explicit or moving into private messages. Ordinary social chat belongs here too.

Is the chat anonymous?

You can join under a nickname without registering, but that does not make you invisible. Choose what you share and review the Privacy Notice for connection metadata.
